No or Distorted Picture (Snowy or Fuzzy)

Common quick fixes:

The following quick fixes resolve most picture problems.
  • Verify Power to Box and TV.
  • Make sure TV/VCR are on correct input or channel. In most cases, this is channel 3. If there is still no picture, try channel 4 and channel 2.
  • Make sure coax connections are finger tight on box, VCR and TV.

Wait 15 minutes. Sometimes the cable operator is fixing a temporay problem. If the problem is still not fixed in 15 minutes, step through the following troubleshooting procedure.

If no picture:

  1. Check to see if the power cord came unplugged from the cable box, TV, or VCR.
  2. Verify the power is on for both the TV and Cox Digital Receiver. Some remotes may require you to press the [TV] or [Cable] button before pressing the PWR (Power) button on the remote control. If the TV or Cox Digital Receiver did not come on, go to the front panel of each device and press the power button. If the TV came on, then the batteries in the remote may be depleted and should be replaced.
  3. Make sure TV and or VCR are on the correct input or channel.

If picture is distorted, fuzzy, or snowy:

  1. Make sure your TV and VCR are tuned to the correct channel. In most cases, this is channel 3. If there is still no picture, try channel 4 and channel 2.
  2. Check your cable connections. Make sure the connections on the cable box, TV, and VCR are finger-tight. Make sure that the cable connected at the wall outlet is not loose or frayed.
  3. Make sure the Video and RF cables are connected to the correct ports on the set-top box, VCR, DVD, and TV. (See Connection Diagrams in the Technical Support area of this website.)
  4. If you have a VCR , push or switch the TV/VCR button to put the VCR in the TV mode.

If none of these steps fixed the problem, then perhaps the TV signal or
equipment is not working properly. Please contact us for assistance.

Dialogue printing on screen/Black box in middle of picture/Closed Captioning

This problem is consistent with the Closed Captioning of your television or VCR being on, or to a "TEXT" setting. Please check the menu settings of your television and VCR and make sure that the settings for Closed Captioning are "OFF." This should correct the situation.
